Handing off the story
Subjecting it to another pair of (excellent eyes)
I’ve just sent the manuscript for SONGS OF SAIGON off to the editor, CB. Moore. (Cue a long sigh!) After investing more work in this book than I’ve done before (not that I haven’t worked hard on the previous books...) I’ve been reluctant to send it off. I’ve done three drafts, an effort that included some serious revisions that had me cutting out some beautiful writing (IMHO) that didn’t move the story forward well enough, and expanding things that somehow weren’t clear.
Enough is sometimes enough and it was time to stop meddling.
Now it will get a solid review and become a better work.
The book will be on preorder in July and available early Sept. In the meantime, I promised editor T.G. Wolff I’d write a story for season nine of her Mysteries To Die For podcast. (It’s even on youtube.) I love deadlines. I surely must,
All too soon I’ll need to get back to working toward the launch… making edits, doing formatting, and coordinate with my illustrator (we are doing a frontispiece for this book) and the cover designer (Rocking Book Covers). Then there is uploading everything and timing the preorder and marketing…
I seem to be having way too much fun this year.
